Specific purpose contract of 7 months duration with potential for extension, employed by Pobail Le Chéile, CDP, CLG for 28 hours per week based in Falcarragh.  

 Organisation Details

Pobail le Chéile (PLC) is a community development organisation based in Falcarragh that aims to increase social inclusion, community-led and community based programmes that target disadvantage, marginalisation and poverty. This work is carried out through local initiatives managed by PLC directly and by other projects supported or enabled by the assistance of the Community Development Project. The Company is directed by a Voluntary Board of Management and employed several core staff and offers work placements for people through Community Employment Schemes and the TÚS Programme. The company’s work targets children and families, health & wellbeing, social prescribing, youth work, positive ageing and men’s health and social programmes.

Post Details

The role of the Project Coordinator will be to assist the implementation the CDP work plan for 2022 and up to mid 2023 in conjunction with the current Coordinator, Voluntary Board of Directors, staff and volunteers. This includes the resourcing and supporting of the inclusion of people in the community, with an emphasis on social inclusion, on the work and programmes of Pobail le Chéile including in identifying local needs and solutions.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  1. To coordinate and oversee the development and implementation of the overall project in close collaboration with the project administrator and PLC Board of Management.
  2. Develop approaches and projects to build meaningful relationships based on trust with local communities, organisations and agencies by implementing a neighbourhood work practice. 
  3. Develop and coordinate the delivery of Adult Community Education programmes (both recreational / pre-accreditation and accredited levels) based on local needs and community proposals.

Candidates must have by the closing date for receipt of applications for this post:

  • Have a relevant third level qualification in the areas of Social Sciences, Community Work or Human Rights or equivalent.
  • 3 years’ experience working in the Community and Voluntary Sector or equivalent with a minimum of 1 year’s coordination experience in a community development setting.
  • Be reasonably competent in spoken and written Irish.

reduced subject to continuation of funding. The contract will be a fixed term
contract of Specific Purpose

Hours: Part-time/4 Days per week (flexibility considered)
Location: Falcarragh based post. Responsible areas: Donegal (Cloughaneely and environs)
Responsible to: Coordinator and PLC Board of Directors
The role of the Project Coordinator will be to assist the implementation the CDP work plan for 2022 in conjunction
with the Voluntary Board of Directors, staff and volunteers. This includes the resourcing and supporting of the
inclusion of people in the community, with an emphasis on social inclusion, on the work and programmes of Pobail
le Chéile including in identifying local needs and solutions.
This post will work directly with local communities, organisations and agencies across the project area and possibly
wider across Donegal through visits, IT and online platforms and will involve face to face work and group work.
General Duties

  1. To coordinate and oversee the development and implementation of the overall project in close collaboration
    with the project administrator and PLC Board of Management.
  2. Develop approaches and projects to build meaningful relationships based on trust with local communities,
    organisations and agencies by implementing a neighbourhood work practice.
  3. Support individuals and families to develop an understanding of the applications process and the completion
    and submission of applications for services e.g. housing application and enrolment in education, medical
    cards, wellbeing and health supports.
  4. Develop and coordinate the delivery of Adult Community Education programmes (both recreational / pre-
    accreditation and accredited levels) based on local needs and community proposals.
  5. Work with public and statutory services locally to ensure equal access and outcomes for all local
    communities and to promote inclusion, building positive relationships eg: CYPSC Donegal, Donegal County
    Childcare Committee, Springboard, DFPSS, Public health staff.
  6. Any other duties as agreed and set down by the Pobail le Chéile Board.

Person Specification
Essential
The person must:
● Have a relevant third level qualification in the areas of Social Sciences, Community Work or Human Rights
or equivalent.
● 3 years’ experience working in the Community and Voluntary Sector or equivalent with a minimum of 1
year’s coordination experience in a community development setting.
● Be reasonably competent in spoken and written Irish.

● Be able to demonstrate project management skills including monitoring and evaluation.
● Have excellent communication, IT and report writing skills including online social media skills.

Desirable
The person will:
● Have experience as a facilitator including a working knowledge of designing, developing and delivering
training/workshops to agencies, stakeholders and others to promote inclusion, build positive relationships
and critical consciousness.
● Have strong interpersonal and organisational skills as well as be willing to be flexible.
● Be experienced in funding applications and have a good grasp of financial and budgeting requirements.
● Have good understanding of the Primary care and community health services and supports, community
mental health supports and community responses to health and wellbeing issues, needs and gaps.
● Be skilled in group work, facilitation and supporting collective decision-making.
Other
The successful candidate must:
● Hold a current driving license with access to transport or your own vehicle
● Undergo Garda vetting
